Note: I sent this reply to a Steve Breen cartoon in the San Diego Union-Tribune paper. It showed a big empty trailer portraying “50 dead in San Antonio.” Then, Breen brazenly wrote as his caption: “America’s immigration policy.”
That was a satanic lie, the sewage pouring from the pens of liberals who refuse to believe that America has the right to protect our borders. To welcome only those who come legally. To prevent those who come simply because they “want to escape privation.” Anyway, I toned down to a pastoral appeal the original prophetic draft sent to Letters to the Editor. Still, the paper wouldn’t publish it. Okay. I’ll write it as a blog. NOTHING could be further from the truth than Breen’s cartoon. America has many sins of which we need to repent, and for which God will severely punish us. But the death of those migrants isn’t one of them. To even think so betrays the principles of human accountability. America didn’t invite those migrants. Or request them. Or hire coyotes to bring them. Or create such poor economic conditions in Mexico south to encourage people to seek better living conditions here. Blame the greed of merciless coyotes, and truck owners. Maybe…blame some greedy border agent for passing them through for a share in the profits. Blame the Roman Catholic Church in Mexico south, which won’t spend a peso to upgrade their economies. Blame a liberal government in America that thinks we OWE sanctuary to anyone who wants to come. But do not blame America. I haven’t commented on the latest effort by immigration lawyers to force America to accept illegal immigrants from south of our border JUST because they insist on coming here. Not at all equating them with the “wretched refuse” of Emma Lazarus, America is not the dump for all the people from Catholic countries who seek to live here.
I’ve said it before; I’ll say it now: Roman Catholicism is the worst enemy Catholics in Catholic-controlled countries have. The Curia has multiplied its wealth while leaving the vast majority of its people in poverty. It will continue to further disenfranchise them to enrich the Church—which is the bureaucracy, not the people. Mexico, controlled by the Catholic Church, depends on America to be the safety-value for its economic problems. Instead, revolution should occur in Mexico to force economic reforms that give opportunities to most, not a few, Mexicans. American outsourcing can’t and shouldn’t be expected to do it.. Now...a word about “faith” leaders being at the Mexican border demanding protection of illegal immigrants and their asylum. Why do those “people of faith” think America has a responsibility to provide for Mexicans and people on South? We didn’t invite those immigrants to walk from deep South America to the Mexican border. We have no responsibility to protect them on their way or to provide sanctuary. Look at it from a Biblical standpoint. In one way alone America is like the Kingdom of God. God’s Heaven is open to all who obey his rules for entering it. It doesn’t matter to him that many want to enter but don’t want to obey his rules; who want to decide for themselves how it will be done. He won’t accept them Matthew 7:21-23. Case closed: obey his Son, you’re saved; refuse to obey his Son, go to Hell. In the same way Protestant America is a land of opportunity for all people that Catholic countries are not—and can never be. But...to enter America rules must be obeyed, not broken. Quotas must be observed, not disregarded. And anyone observing neither can’t come in. They will be sent back. Without apologies from our government. Whatever greedy immigration lawyers want or misguided religionists say. As a sovereign power, we WILL defend our borders! Another perspective should make this clear. Most of the religionists at the border kneeling and praying and demanding open borders have specific requirements for anyone requesting membership in their religious bodies. No one can FORCE his way, in defiance of the rules, just because he wants to belong. He might be able to attend, to sing, to fellowship, to give, but he won’t qualify as a member! Just so, let all illegal aliens stop at the Mexican-American border and look across. That’s all they’re entitled to. They can come over only by obeying the rules. Anyone who doesn’t will be sent back, just as anyone wanting to be in a religious body will be shown the door OUT if he wants membership on his own terms. Indeed, such people will be encouraged to go to the Unitarian Church. They’re too concerned listening to what others believe to have personal convictions. Ancient Romans had an average of 206 working days. That contrasts with our average 250 working days, not including 10 holidays and not including vacation time. But the ancients had at least 30 more holidays than we.
Caution, however...with a million free men and 1,300,000 slaves in Rome, we would as likely be a slave as a free person. One senator made a motion that slaves be forced to wear specific clothing so they would remember their PLACE. The motion died when another senator reminded the Senate that it would more likely remind them of their NUMBERS. Consider this week work in several categories with scriptural application where possible. First, Work That Comes Easiest or Cheapest May in Long-Term Cost More The Perkin-Elmer Corporation of Connecticut bid $70 million to build the 8 foot diameter mirror for the Hubble telescope and its secondary 12.5 inch mirror. The Eastman Kodak, with more experience and greater work force bid $105.5 million. The lowball bid won. But it cost NASA...and the US taxpayer in the end. For we spent in excess of $110 million to rebuild and repair the mirror in space. The low bid cost more when incompetent work ballooned repair costs. Today one hears little about Christ’s teaching on self-denial; or his demand that we resist temptation; or his expectation that we articulately defend the Four Gospels. Though each is a precious foundational teaching to God and must be for his people. And if others want to hear a far less demanding message that gives them more freedom of opinion, that’s TOO BAD for them! God makes the rules and the God who makes the rules is the Only Ruler. Christ guarantees that he will save from sin, from an aimless life, from the grave and eventually to a new body in God’s new, perfect world. Many options to his offer exist. And if we want to take a chance that another way to God exists...well, we don’t want to take that chance, because no other way to God DOES! Jesus alone offers the way and IS the WAY—and no other way exists. We’re going to live forever, do we understand...forever and ever, eternally. With God or without God. And whatever skeptics may say, we don’t want to live without God. That’s no fun. It’s not happy. It’s not even tolerable. It’s HELL without God. And Jesus is the only way to avoid it. –End Part I- Lee Greenwood composed a great patriotic song entitled God Bless the U.S. A. Its stirring lyrics and music remain an important American tradition on holidays.
Christians can’t be proud to be Americans today. Not with God ignored and Christ minimalized or vilified from the lowest to the highest levels of academia. Not with marriage rejected as a “piece of paper” and living together an accepted substitute. Not with the excess of egotism in every media outlet exalting humanity as deities. We can be proud to be Christians in America today. Bearing witness to Jesus as God’s One and Only Son and humanity’s one and only hope John 3:16. Living the sanctified example God demands in his believers Ephesians 2:10. Holding marriage as God’s only basis of long-term relationships between a man and a woman, and challenging husbands to be Christ-like leaders who love their wives and children as Christ loves the church Ephesians 5:22-28. Exalting motherhood as the highest calling of all women, Genesis 4:1-2. And so on. Being a Christian witness doesn’t demand a positive condition in society to exist, express itself and make a positive impact for Jesus. Break-up conditions often give us optimal opportunities to prove the difference Jesus makes in lives committed to him. He lacks only people who will take their relationship with him as seriously as he took his intention to be our Savior by Grace. Who will rise to his challenge? |
