NOTE: To anyone still reading my blogs—I’m back. Read on. Virg
Twice in two years Kaiser Medical Centers have caused me unnecessary extended infections. The first time occurred two years ago when a doctor, via a phone call, diagnosed me with Covid. WHICH I knew I didn’t have—and DIDN’T! That night Judy and I sat in our car for 2-3 hours until called into a “safe” room. Diagnosed as a sinus infection—which I told them I had—the doctor said they weren’t allowed to prescribe antibiotics until 3 days after diagnosis! The second time occurred November 5, 2022. Again, knowing I had a sinus infection, we went to Urgent Care in San Marcos, California. After waiting for 4-5 hours, the doctor had me tested twice for Covid and once for the flu—despite my claim to a sinus infection. All tests came back negative. Big Surprise! Then, the doctor said he couldn’t prescribe antibiotics or it would be “tagged”—which I considered a bureaucratic way of saying his superiors would criticize him. He prescribed OVER THE COUNTER meds. (I could have done that!) Three days later I received a prescription. By that time, as on the first occasion, the infection had settled into a more malevolent state. That cost me three weeks of slow recovery and three Sunday’s of preaching. The Kaiser medical bureaucrats say the overuse of antibiotics has allowed the increase of super-bugs resistant to antibiotics. Question: have they done any research to see if delaying treatment of recognized infections doesn’t increase the infection’s resistance to medication—and thus create the same problem they’re trying to avoid? I wonder: if doctors would delay meds for their own families? I wonder: are we going to settle into a medical profession of Urgent Delay instead of Urgent Care? I wonder: if doctors can’t feel free to diagnose needed medical treatment for obvious infections—because some bureaucrat Will TAG him, isn’t it time to take the CARE out of medical and put DOLLARS in its stead? That’s my hiss. My hurrah is for Dr. Park, at Kaiser Hospital’s Emergency Room on Clairmont Mesa Dr. She quickly diagnosed what she considered a recent problem, ordered x-rays to prove it and had us out of Emergency Room in 3 hours! A New record.
